Mike specialises in physically energetic telling with an emphasis on interacting with his audiences and bringing stories to life. As a collector and performer of stories, he can offer a range of folk and fairy tales from near and far. He is always delighted to prepare any requests, specific collections both contemporary and traditional and well loved favourites.
Mike can be seen telling stories at theatres, festivals, bookshops, museums, libraries, children’s centres, shopping centres, high streets, parks, gardens, open spaces, universities, colleges, schools, pre-schools, nurseries and special occasions both nationally and internationally. Performance storytelling is his re-discovered passion.
Training and Inspiration
Mike trained at Exeter University before touring as an actor, acrobat and musician. Inspired by the writings of Vsevolod Meyerhold he began directing theatre, placing an emphasis on strong ensemble playing, unusual theatre spaces, movement and clear storytelling. He works freelance on a project by project basis and is the Artistic Director of arts organisation Pinpoint Create.
When not performing he teaches the art of storytelling to a wide range of professional people and to students of all ages and explores how storytelling can enhance our communities and cultural lives.
Working With Others
He is in demand both nationally and internationally as a consultant steering a range of corporate organisations to develop their use of storytelling as a way of connecting with the wider world.
Mike works openly in collaboration with musicians, artists, authors, playwrights, actors, illustrators, technicians, film-makers, designers, dancers, engineers, educators, policy makers, entrepreneurs.
He is always keen to meet and work with new people and welcomes fresh challenges from all sectors of the global community.
